ENGLISH 9

It is a new nine weeks. Its time to begin again. We will discuss the literature selection Disguises. How would you handle a situation if those involved didnt speak English? How well do you handle stress? These are just a few questions that we will discuss pertaining to the selection. We will also review the fifteeen literary terms in which they defined last week such as personification, foreshadowing, anecdote, genre, etc.,

Because many are still challenged with using formal language within their writing, we will continue to write everyday. We will begin with journal entries until they are ready to proceed to writing essays. They will write two journal entries next week. We will review the common mistakes people make when writing. I will return the entries and discuss any errors. I look forward to a productive week.

I dont know about you ,but I believe in SECOND CHANCES. Therefore, I  allowed each student to turn in his or her research paper rough draft Tuesday October 19, 2010. After viewing several, it was obvious that they were not ready to submit the final copy. Each student will turn in his or her draft Tuesday. I will return the drafts Wednesday. The final copy is due Friday. It is worth a total of two test grades. I CANT THINK OF ANY BETTER WAY TO BEGIN THE SECOND NINE WEEKS.
I look forward to reading each paper. I also look forward to viewing a job well done. I had to remind the class about the purpose of the assignment. Many thought that the purpose was to receive an "A". That was not the purpose. While I would love for all to receive an "A", the purpose was to allow them the ability to create your own thesis statement, gather research, and most importantly to know what you're doing. There is a purpose to every assignment. I explained mine. I wish them luck when they turn them in.
