They say that the third time is a charm. I think that was the case. My English 10 students identified their eight parts of speech for the third time this week. Overall, they did well. They will complete their test next Tuesday. After discussing the third attempt, each student began writing his or her narrative essay. Each student was given a variety of prompts. They were to select one and write his or her essay. This is in preparation for the writing assessment that will take place in 2011. I will return each essay ,and we will discuss the results based upon the writing assessment criteria and standards. I look forward to well written essays.

English 9 Pre- AP
It is the NUMBER ONE fear of many Americans. PUBLIC SPEAKING. Yes, it is that time to begin speech presentations. My A day group presented Monday ,and they did an outstanding job! My B day will present Friday and next Tuesday. We will review the speech requirements and view various speeches.
Preparation is the key. A good speaker is a prepared speaker. They are allowed only five notecards. No one wants to listen to anyone read a speech. Practice! Practice! Practice! The class also define figurative language terms in an effort to understand future selections within the AP course material. I look forward to the speeches. They have been great thus far! Once again, preparation is the key! During November 8-12 , I will introduce the next required reading ,and we will begin discussing their upcoming research paper.

Media Publications
This is the week in which we will finalize the first forty-eight pages within the NCTHS 2010-2011 yearbook. We will meet the deadline! It was a challenge ,but we still have several pages that remain. While we wait on the senior formal photos, we will shift our focus towards the construction of the NCTHS 2010-2011 newsletter. You can anticipate various events, dates, and activities displayed within the newsletter. Each student will have a story to cover and submit to the NCTHS staff and/or editor. With any newsletter, old news is old news. Therefore, time is of the essence. There will be deadlines. I look forward to it! Let's get to work!

The focus within this week has become identifying prepositions and reading three literature selections.
Due to some students feeling as if they were not ready for the test, I decided to re teach the information regarding prepositions. We will discuss the exercise Wednesday and my Bday class will take their test Friday. Each selection will consist of the following: Characters, Setting, Plot, Conflict, Resolution, Genre, Theme, Mood, Protagonist and Antagonist. We will discuss and apply the short story elements with each selection. They are Disguises, Full Circle, and Liberty. I have encouraged each student to study. They placed their notes in their composition notebook. I look forward to stellar performances!
