English 9
Monday, January 28, 2013 --  Each student will write another essay free of any grammatical errors. Due to the errors within Friday's essay, each student will have an opportunity to write another essay. The purpose is to improve their writing skills ,and it will allow them to gain a possible total of ten points towards their test last Friday.
Tuesday, January 29, 2013 -- I will return the essays ,and each student will have an opportunity to view the essay along with Friday's test. I will discuss any errors ,and I will allow a Q&A session regarding the test. Once the time has expired, I will reiterate the importance of reading comprehension.
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 --- I will introduce vocabulary terms in an effort to expose each student to a higher level of thinking. The purpse is also to eliminate informal language and enhance each student's vocabulary.
Thurday, January 31, 2013 --- Each student will review and define the vocabulary terms. With the use of their laptop, each student will complete a vocabulary game identifying each vocabulary term. Once the time has expired, I will review and stress the importance of reading comprehension.
Friday, February 1, 2013 --- Each student will complete a guided practice exercise identifying their vocabulary terms. Once the time has expired, each student will read a passage identifying literary terms and literary devices.

English 9 Pre-AP
Monday, January 28, 2013 -- Each student will receive his or her quiz results from Friday's vocabulary quiz. We will discuss the quiz ,and I will proceed to review and introduce the use of a dialectical journal.
Tuesday, January 29, 2013 -- I will review and introduce the use of a dialectical journal. I will also share examples within the class period.
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 -- Each student will read a passage and identify literary devices and literary terms within the passage.
Thursday, January 31, 2013 --- Each student will read a passage and identify literary devices and literary terms withing the passage.
Friday, February 1, 2013 -- The class will discuss the passage and the literary devices and terms within each passage.

English 10
Monday, January 28, 2013 --- Each student will define flat and round characters. Each student will proceed to read The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros.
Tuesday, January 29, 2013 --- We will review and define flat and round characters. Each student will continue reading The House on Mango Street.
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 --- The class will continue reading The House on Mango Street.
Thursday, January 31, 2013 --- Each student will identify literary terms and devices by providing textual evidence within the book.
Friday, February 1, 2013 -- Each student will identify literary terms and devices by providing textual evidence within the book.

January 14 - 18, 2013


English 9
     On Monday, I will return the apostrophe quizzes to the class. We will discuss the quizzes and address any questions. The class will proceed to read his or her required reading or complete his or her study guide pertaining to the selection. On Tuesday, I will introduce subject-verb agreement. We will review and discuss the rules. The student will proceed to complete a practice exercise. Upon completion, we will proceed to discussing their study guide pertaining to the required reading selection. On Wednesday, we will review subject-verb agreement ,and each student will complete another practice exercise. Upon completion and discusstion of the exercise, each student will have the remaining portion of the period to read and/or finish their study guide for their required reading. On Thursday, we will discuss the study guide in preparation for Friday's test on the selection. On Friday, each student will complete his or her test on the required reading selection.


English 9 Pre-AP
      On Monday, each student completed a quiz on edmodo defining literary terms. UPon completion of the quiz, I distributed the group presentation guidelines ,and I also assigned group presentation chapters. Each group gathered ,and they began working on their presentation. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I will review the guidelines pertaining to the group presentations. I will also allow them to gather information as they prepare to present the information Friday. On Friday, each student will present chapters 2-9 of Charles Seife's Zero The Biography of a Dangerous Idea.




English 10
      On Monday, the class proceeded to the library in an effort to give them an opportunity to read his or her required reading selection in preparation for Friday's test. On Tuesday, the class will proceed to discuss interpreting and analyzing figures of speech within their required reading selection. On Wednesday, each student will turn in his or her assignment identifying those figures of speech in his or her required reading of choice. On Thursday, we will discuss each selection in preparation for Friday's test. On Friday, each student will complete his or her test on their required reading selection.

English 9
      On Monday, each student will read his or her required reading selection. Each student will be tested on Friday January 18, 2013. On Tuesday, each student will have twenty minutes to read his or her required reading selection. Once the time has expired, the class will proceed to review correct usage of apostrophes and commas. On Wednesday, each student will  have twenty minutes to read his or her required reading selection. Once the time has expired, each student will review and complete a guided practice pertaining to the correct usage of apostrophes and commas. On Thursday, each student will have twenty minutes to read his or her required reading selection. Once the time has expired, each student will write a journal entry pertaining to the content of the book. Each student will submit the entry Friday. On Friday, each student will complet a quiz identifying and demonstrating the correct usage of apostrophes and commas.


English 10
      On Monday, each student will confirm his or her required reading selection using the list given to them last week. On Tuesday, each student will have twenty minutes to read his or her required reading selection. Once the time has expired, the class will review their midterm common core material. On Wednesday, the class will listen to Calhoun Community College's Mrs. Laura Holt. She will be the guest speaker informing the class about  improving their grades, proper study habits and determining your learning style. On Thursday, we will review the midterm material covered within the common core material. On Friday, each student will write a brief summary of the information he or she has read within their required reading selection. The test will take place Friday Jan. 18, 2013.

      On Monday, each student will read chapters zero and chapter one of  Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea by Charles Seife. On Tuesday, the class will read the remaining portion of chapter one of  Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea. The class will proceed to define literary terms and/or devices used in English Literature. On Wednesday, we will proceed to read the selection. We will also define and review the literary terms and devices used in English Literature. On Thursday, the class will proceed to read Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea. On Friday, each student will complete a quiz. Each student will define the literary terms and/or devices in English Literature.
