English 9
Students will complete his or her test Monday. Upon completion, the class will discuss the test. We will review narrative essays Wednesday ,and each student will begin constructing his or her narrative essay. On Thursday, each student will proofread his or her narrative essay and identify the eight parts of speech. Students will present his or her narrative essay on Friday.
English 9 Pre-AP
I will return each student their compare/contrast essay on Monday. It is designed to give them an opportunity to proofread and edit any content. Once the editing is complete, each student will submit their final copy on Monday. Tuesday will be devoted to introducing the poetry competition entitled Poetry Outloud. Wednesday and Thursday will be devoted to viewing To Kill A Mockingbird since the students have completed their test last Friday. Each student will recite his or her poem on Friday.
English 10
Each student will complete his or her poetry recitation regarding Poetry Outloud on Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the class will view Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven. On Thursday and Friday, each student will select two Edgar Allan Poems ,and each student will write a compare/contrast essay pertaining to the two selections.

The class and I will discuss the second To Kill A Mockingbird test on Monday. Each student will read the literature selection "The Washwoman" in their textbook on that day as well. We will discuss the selection on Tuesday. Each student will complete a quiz on Wednesday that pertains to the literature selection. On Thursday and Friday,we will define the eight parts of speech. It is the foundation within the "grammar world". Therefore, we will focus on the basics before moving forward to the complex grammar.

During this week, the class will complete the reading assignment regarding " The Scottsboro Boys". We will discuss the similarities and differences on Tuesday. We will also discuss and review the writing process. Each student will begin the prewriting phase on Wednesday. The final copy is due Friday. The students will compare and contrast the events within Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird to "The Scottsboro Boys". We will also define various literary terms such as hyperobole,foreshadowing, assonance, doppleganger, etc

Students will receive their "Annabel Lee" and "The Raven" test on Monday. We will discuss the test. Once the discussion is complete, we will proceed to discuss the study guide material for the second Edgar Allan Poe test. Each student will complete and discuss the study guide Tuesday ,and they will take their test Wednesday. Wednesday's test will cover the selections "The Pit and the Pendulum" "Masque of the Red Death" and "The Gold Bug" On Thursday and Friday, we will begin discussing their research paper. We will review MLA format ,and they will view examples. I will also provide them with the research paper due dates.

Each student will complete his or her To Kill A Mockingbird test Monday. I will return and discuss the tests on Tuesday. We will devote the remaining portion of the week to applying the proper reading strategies when introducing the literature selections within the textbook . Also, due to the 8 parts of speech quiz scores, we will also review the eight parts of speech.

They began the essay Friday ,and each student will have an opportunity to complete the essay Monday Sept. 10, 2012. I will begin returning the essays Tuesday.
