ENGLISH 9
We will begin with the basics of grammar. We are returning to nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, verbs, prepositions and interjections. Yes, it the eight parts of speech. I have noticed that there is a challenge that still exist in identifying the eight parts of speech. We will focus on each part of speech until I am convinced that it is okay to move forward.
They will also read two literature selections this week. They will also proceed to write two journal entries. The purpose of the entry is to examine their ability to write small paragraphs on personal subject matter before we proceed to writing essays.

YEARBOOK
We will take Freshman and Sophomore class favorite photos Thursday after second lunch in the library. The class will also begin constructing the NCTHS newsletter. Pages 1-48 will be submitted to the yearbook company November 30, 2010.

ENGLISH 10
The class will proceed to review adjectives and adverbs. After reviewing and discussing their workbook exercises, they will complete a quiz identifying adjectives and adverbs. The class will also review the following essay formats: persuasive, descriptive, narrative and expository. We will define each and discuss the writing assessment standards.
The class will complete a mock writing assessment essay. Each will receive a prompt. They are to respond to the prompt. Each student will have forty-five minutes to respond. We will also discuss several literature selections and identify the short story elements within each selections.
